Re-create a classic childhood treat completely gluten free with this great recipe. Circus Animal Cookies are not only adorable, but they are pretty easy to make. But the best news is that these cookies are gluten free, dairy free, egg free, nut free, and vegan. Although you might be skeptical, don't worry; these cookies taste as good as, if not better than, traditional animal cookies. So, gather your gluten free flours and other baking essentials and you're already halfway there. You'll also want to find some animal cookie cutters to give these cookies their tell-tale shape.

Animal crackers, or Barnum's Animals, were first created in 1902 by the National Biscuit Company. In order to market their product during the holiday season, the company designed a cardboard circus wagon to house the animal crackers. On the circus wagon box, they included a string so that their consumers could hang the wagon as an ornament on their Christmas tree. Because this kid-friendly product was only 5 cents, it took off and everyone had to have their own circus wagon.

Today, these animal crackers are still incredibly popular with kids and adults alike. Kids love to play with the animals before enjoying them as a snack, and adults love these crackers because the treat reminds them of their childhood. Currently there are 18 different varities of animals including tigers, cougars, camels, rhinos, kangaroos, hippopotami, bison, lions, hyenas, zebras, elephants, sheep, bears, gorillas, monkeys, seals, giraffes, and koalas.

Do you think you can make all 18 animals with this frosted animal cookie recipe? Give it a try today!
