How to Make Gluten Free Breadcrumbs

By: Beth Ann Morley, Editor, FaveGlutenFreeRecipes.com

Have you ever wondered how to make homemade gluten free bread crumbs? If so, then you're in the right place! We have four different options to make your own homemade bread crumbs, and of course, none of these recipes include gluten!

Gluten Free Tips

New to the gluten free world? Check out our Gluten Free Beginner's Guide

Option 1: Gluten Free Bread

Gluten Free Tips

Using store-bought or homemade gluten free bread is the most traditional option when making breadcrumbs. You simply cube the slices of bread and toast them in the oven. Then, put the bread cubes, a touch of salt, and seasonings such as oregano and parsley in a food processor. Pulse until the bread crumbs are your desired size.

Option 2: Gluten Free Pretzels

Gluten Free Tips

Using pretzels is a great option when making gluten free breadcrumbs because the pretzels will add a bit more crunch to your recipe. However, you should take into consideration that pretzels are rather salty, so you should avoid adding additional salt to your dish. To turn the pretzels into breadcrumbs, simply process them along with Italian seasoning in a food processor.

Option 3: Brown Rice Cereal

Gluten Free Tips

To make plain breadcrumbs, we suggest using brown rice cereal. This cereal will add the perfect texture but without adding a whole lot of flavor. Depending on how fine you want your breadcrumbs, you can choose to crush the brown rice cereal by hand or with a food processor.

Option 3: Rice Chex Cereal

Gluten Free Rice Chex

Last but certainly not least, you can choose to use Rice Chex cereal to make your gluten free breadcrumbs. Instead of grinding this cereal to crumbs, you should leave it a bit chunky. This will give your dish some added texture.

When making these breadcrumbs, watch out for cross contamination. Here are 10 Tips to Prevent Cross Contamination
