Classic Macaroni Salad
Classic Macaroni Salad
This image courtesy of

This Classic Macaroni Salad goes great with any picnic or BBQ entree, and if you make this gluten free pasta salad for a party, it's sure to disappear. This deli salad has a creamy texture, but there's also some crunch with the added veggies. Every single bite of this pasta salad will give you a ton of flavor. The combination of the crunchy celery and sweet pickled relish adds a nuanced flavor to make this a great gluten free side dish. Top this pasta salad with paprika to make this dish look stellar.

Preparation Time20 min

  • 2 cups uncooked gluten free elbow or shell macaroni
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 4 ounces diced pimentos, drained
  • 1/4 cup chopped shallots
  • 1 hard-boiled egg, sliced
  • Smoked paprika

To Make the Macaroni Salad

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Then drain, rinse, and let cool.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, pickle relish, sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.

  3. In a large bowl, toss the macaroni, celery, pimentos, and shallots. Add the mayo-sour cream mixture and mix to coat.

  4. Garnish with the sliced egg and sprinkle the top with paprika.

  5. Chill for an hour or longer.

In every gluten-free recipe that I encounter, I always want to know which ingredient is free of gluten to be able to be called truly gluten-free. Otherwise, the recipe will just be another ordinary recipe. This Classic Macaroni Salad uses gluten-free macaroni shells making this recipe a gluten-free one. I've always loved Macaroni Salad but for this recipe, the celery and paprika are novel ingredients for this macaroni recipe. Thanks for the free recipe.
