Ingredients
- 1 box gluten free crackers (suggested: Glutino crackers)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- crushed pecans (optional)
- crushed peppermints (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
-
Line a 15 x 10 inch rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place crackers side-by-side on the sheet until the entire pan is covered.
-
Melt the butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the melted butter and brown sugar to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes. Pour the mixture evenly over the crackers. Note: the mixture will be difficult to spread, so spread it as quickly as you can before it hardens.
-
Bake for 7 minutes. While the crackers and caramel mixture are baking, melt the bag of chocolate. Note: melt the chocolate in a saucepan over medium high heat, or in the microwave at 50% power for 30 second intervals.
-
Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers, and bake for 3 more minutes.
-
Remove the toffee from the oven. If desired, sprinkle crushed peppermint or crushed pecans over the toffee. Let cool in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
-
Remove from the refrigerator and break into small pieces. Enjoy!

I would love to make this recipe, but I am diabetic. Have you tried making it with artificial sweetener? I was wondering if the toffee part would turn out the same with the change. If it worked, then this recipe would make an excellent gift for several family members and friends.

I have very strong (positive) feelings about Christmas crack. I would only make this if I knew I had someone to give it too. I cannot resist the sugar.

Usually anything made with crackers is off limits for me - but now I get to join in on the Christmas Crack fun! I tried both kinds - pecan and peppermint - and both were delicious!

I've had many versions of "Christmas Crack" before, but this is by far my favorite. It wasn't too sweet and I love how you can customize the toppings... such fun ideas!

Where do I begin? After tasting this I understand why it's called "crack". The lengths I'd go to get my hands on more of this delicious treat are extreme and cannot be published online. Why is it so great? The texture. A perfect pairing of a cracker crunch against a soft layer of chocolate. It's so thin it feels like you're ingesting a healthy snack. I plan on eating this until the day I die. If anyone makes any tell me... and I'll take it from you.

This Christmas crack was so delicious! It tasted just like Christams crack made with saltines, so there is really no reason to NOT make this gluten free version. This will be the recipe I make for Christmas parties and presents from now on. That way I know EVERYONE will be able to enjoy it!

What a delicious treat! I loved the sweet and salty mixture of the crackers and chocolate. Now I know why they call this Christmas Crack - once I started eating, I didn't want to stop!
