Ingredients
- 1 pound pork sausage (plain or sage flavored)
- 1 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 3 cups frozen hash browns, slightly thawed (about 12 ounces)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (about 8 ounces), divided
- 1 cup finely chopped onion
- 3/4 cup gluten free Bisquick

- A few grinds of black pepper or 4-5 drops hot sauce
- 2 cups milk (skim, 2%, or whole)
- 6 eggs
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with cooking spray.
-
In a 10-inch skillet set over medium heat, crumble the sausage and cook, stirring and breaking up with a spoon, for 4 minutes. Add bell pepper and onion and continue to cook and stir another 4 minutes. Drain off accumulated fat and spread the sausage mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.

Sprinkle the potatoes over the top of the meat, then sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of the cheese on top.

Gently pour over the other ingredients in the baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes, then sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top and continue to cook another 5 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center of the dish comes out clean.
-
Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

the recipe calls for onion and peppers, but the instructions list onions twice and no peppers. Would it be safe to say the 1 1/2 c. is the peppers, with the 1/2 c. being the onions?

I find on a gluten free diet that breakfasts are the most difficult meals as you can't just grab some cereal. This is an amazing recipe which can be made and eaten later, either warmed up or cold. This is definitely a keeper. I find if I eat a good breakfast I don't need much during the day, I can snack on fruit and vegetables or some simple plan tuna which makes it easier than finding an alternative to a lunch time sandwich.

Gluten free Breakfast Bake is a simple way to have a nutritious breakfast for the whole family. I was not aware that Bisquick made a gluten free mix. Yippee! I grew up with Bisquick in my house and loved making Sunday morning biscuits. Once I became gluten sensitive I stopped cooking with Bisquick. I am wondering if I can pre-make everything and keep it over night in the casserole dish for heating up Christmas morning breakfast. Thank you for bringing back those memories.

This Guten-Free Impossibly Easy Breakfast Bake looks so delicious to eat in the morning when you are starving and needs to fill your tummy. This is easy to do, healthy, and gluten-free. I like the combination of sausage and potatoes in a very subtle way as the sausages are crumbed and potatoes used are hash browns. This is filling yet light in the tummy. You'll have enough energy to last till the next lunch break. Thanks for this free recipe which is well-presented and made available on the same page.

The hashbrowns were the best part of this bake for me, although the rest of it was pretty good as well. It wasn't suuuuuuuper flavorful, but it was still tasty. I would definitely eat it again.

I only had a small piece of this breakfast bake, but it was still SO filling. Loved the sausage and hash browns - they added so much flavor and texture to the overall dish.

Yum! I liked that the eggs weren't overpowering. The hash browns balanced them out.

It's tasty, but mainly I think because it's topped with cheese (which makes everything taste good). I think this casserole was lacking in spice though- definitely needs a more heat. Maybe some tabasco sauce or cayenne pepper?

I typically don't go crazy for breakfast recipes, but this one was amazing!

This was a surprisingly tasty and hearty meal! I think I might amp up the heat a little bit by adding more pepper, or perhaps serving with optional hot sauce on the side. The GF Bisquick tastes every bit as good as the traditional version, so you're not missing a thing.
